Juniors and Seniors Visit Engineering Companies!

Jewett Automation and Jewett Machine Manufacturing Open Their Doors to ARGS Tech Juniors and Seniors!

ARGS Juniors and Seniors visited Jewett Automation and Jewett Manufacturing on Wednesday, April 22.

The first stop was Jewett Automation, where owner Mr. Bryce Jewett and General Manager Mr. Vince Lovejoy gave the students a guided tour of the state-of-the-art facilities and answered questions about their processes and business.

Next, we headed to Chick-Fil-A for lunch.

The final stop was Jewett Machine Manufacturing.  Mr. Jewett met us there as well and we were joined by Operations Manager Mr. Hank Westerman.  We were taken on a tour of the facilities and got to see some amazing machines and workers in action!

Thank you so much to everyone at Jewett Automation and Jewett Manufacturing for giving us your time and expertise!!

P.S. - Another exciting event happened on our way back to ARGS!  Students spotted the Google Map Car! So look for our bus on the street view of Maury and 6th in Richmond next year!

VCU Engineers2B Day 2015!

Freshman and Sophomore Technology majors took a field trip to Virginia Commonwealth University for a special ARGS Engineers2b Day

First, the students learned about the different types of engineering from Dr. Lorraine Parker, a PhD in Computer Science and the Director of Diversity and Student Programs.

Then the students listened to a mock biomedical engineering lecture by Dr. Paul Wetzel about his work using eye movement tracking to diagnose and treat neurological conditions and traumatic brain injury.

Mr. Benjamin Meyers explained to the students how difficult it is to get into the Engineering School at VCU and how important their grades and SAT scores are for admissions to any engineering school.

All-you-can-eat lunch at Shafer was provided by VCU and the students definitely took advantage of the opportunity to chow down!

Ran into some familiar faces!!

Finally, students (and chaperones) walked off a few calories and capped off the day with a wonderful walking tour of the VCU campus.

Thank you so much to VCU for their hospitality!
