ARGS Robotics Team STEM Workshop!!

The winning bridge held 15 textbooks!  Congratulations!!

The Public Relations Team from ARGS Robotics held the first STEM workshop of the year at the Petersburg Public Library on Thursday, February 16, 2017!  The PR team created and presented their own lesson on bridge design to approximately 25 third through fifth graders participating in the Petersburg Parks and Leisure after-school STEM program!

The PR team helped the students understand flaws in their bridge design and encouraged re-design and re-test, one of the foundations of the engineering design process!

Thank you to the Petersburg Public Library and Petersburg Parks and Leisure!  Everyone - even the adult volunteers - had a great time, and more importantly, LEARNED!!

We can't wait for the next workshop!!

Earning Digital Badges!

AP Computer Science Principles (APCSP) and Virginia STAR

The Technology 2 (APCSP) class took a break from coding to learn more about computer hardware.  Using desktop computers provided by Virginia STAR, the students were required to document the disassembly and reassembly of the machines.  They then had do some technical writing by creating a "manual" for an imaginary client who wanted to build a computer from the parts.  This content about computer hardware is part of the curriculum of both APCSP and Virginia STAR's brand new digital badge program!

With this activity, the students will be earning their Level 1 Hardware and Level 1 Software badges!
